Mrs. Aliss Cracknell
SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability)
The progress of all children that attend St Helen’s Primary School is tracked throughout the year. This enables us to identify when children may require a different or additional type of support to enhance their learning. This may be for a short or extended period of time and focus on communication, overall learning, social, emotional, sensory or physical needs. We take all necessary steps in our power to ensure that children with SEND are not treated less favourably than other pupils.
If you think that your child may have special educational needs or if you have any concern about any aspect of provision and progress of your child, please talk to us. In the first instance, talk to your child’s teacher.
You may also contact the SENDco (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator) Mrs Aliss Cracknell. She can be contacted via the school office on 01487 841468 or by email SENCO@st-helens.cambs.sch.uk.
The Cambridgeshire Local Offer
‘Local authorities must publish a Local Offer, setting out in one place information about provision they expect to be available across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.’ (SEND Code of Practise, 2015)
This is a link to the Cambridge local offer which will be changed and developed overtime and in consultation with parents, children and young people https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/children-and-families/local-offer
Admissions
Children with a statement of special educational needs or Education, Health and Care Plan which names the school take priority over all other applicants and will be admitted irrespective of whether there are places available in the year group. Those children with a statement of special educational needs that does not name the school will be referred to Statutory Assessment and Resources (STAR) Team to determine an appropriate place.
